VP. Medical Group Operations - ProHealth Medical Group

Location:  Waukesha
Job Type:  Days - 1st Shift
Weekly Hours:  40

We are seeking an accomplished, strategic and operationally savvy leader to serve as Vice President, Medical Group Operations. This role will operate at both the system level (PHC) and the ambulatory business-unit level (PHMG), providing executive-level direction and oversight. The successful candidate will lead operations for a complex multi-specialty medical group — across dozens of clinic locations — and steer organizational growth, operational excellence, financial performance, and the future infrastructure needed for population health management and continued expansion.

This is a senior leadership role with significant influence, reporting directly to the Chief Clinical Operations Officer, and charged with aligning the medical group’s operations with PHC’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.

Schedule: This exempt executive role is not fully remote and requires a hands-on leadership presence. Success depends on being visible in clinics, physician meetings, and leadership settings-particularly early on. While flexibility is available, strong engagement and in-person connection are core expectations of the role.

What You’ll Do — Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Growth

  • Partner with the Chief Clinical Operations Officer to define and execute the strategic direction of PHMG, aligning with PHC’s long-term goals.
  • Lead the PHMG management team (including 5 Directors + Operations Leaders) to standardize care processes, policies, and functional responsibilities across all clinic locations.
  • Drive growth of physician practices and support acquisition or affiliation of independent practices — strengthening PHMG’s network footprint and ensuring seamless integration.
  • Collaborate on service-line deployment across ambulatory sites in line with PHC’s long-range plans, including evaluation and negotiation of growth initiatives.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Develop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets for PHMG; drive improvements toward a financially sustainable and efficient operating model.
  • Oversee physician compensation models — ensuring market competitiveness and compliance with Fair Market Value guidelines.
  • Monitor physician productivity, resource utilization, and clinic efficiency to maximize clinical throughput, patient revenue, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Establish and maintain robust reporting mechanisms and performance metrics, regularly communicating status and outcomes to senior leadership.
  • Hold operational leadership accountable for practice management, cost control, and continuous practice efficiency improvements.

Service Excellence & Patient Experience

  • Champion service excellence by creating and refining processes that improve patient experience, access, and satisfaction across all clinics.
  • Promote transparency with providers and clinic leadership — ensuring they have the data, support, and clarity needed to succeed.
  • Support organizational initiatives around population health management, care coordination, and quality improvement.

Clinical Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Guide development and deployment of evidence-based clinical workflows, standardized protocols, smart-sets, and best practices across ambulatory sites.
  • Ensure all locations operate within established standards and regulatory guidelines (state/federal), maintaining high-quality, reliable, and safe care delivery.
  • Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement — where errors are opportunities for learning, and risk reduction is a top priority.
  • Lead quality improvement efforts aimed at meeting or exceeding corporate-level benchmarks (e.g., “top percentile” performance on quality and operational metrics).

What We’re Looking For — Key Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree and clinical degree or certification/licensure
  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive clinical leadership experience in a complex, multi-site ambulatory or hospital-based setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and operationally — translating broad visions into actionable plans and delivering results.
  • Strong financial acumen: budgeting, forecasting, physician compensation models, productivity management, cost control.
  • Outstanding people leadership — proven success leading multi-layered teams with demonstrated conflict resolution, facilitation, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Excellent project management skills: able to lead multiple complex initiatives simultaneously, balancing competing priorities and stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of clinical workflows, ambulatory operations, compliance, quality improvement frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and collaboration skills — with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Commitment to service excellence, patient-centered care, and a culture of safety, transparency, and continuous improvement.
