Schedule Details: Rotating AM/PM shifts as needed. Shifts are typically 8 hours. Pool staff must provide availability 1 day a week and 1 weekend every month. Shifts will typically be at the Waukesha Memorial Hospital, but may also be at additional ProHealth Care campuses. 


What You Will Do:

Following established policies and procedures, Pharmacy Intern 1 performs technical, distributive, and administrative duties. This individual receives, sorts, compounds, processes and prepares medication orders under the supervision of a pharmacist. Other duties as assigned.



  • Communicates in a professional manner when interacting with patients and their families, health care personnel, and other outside pharmacies and health care facilities. 
  • Integrates and communicates seamlessly with pharmacists, technicians, managers and the multidisciplinary healthcare team, especially regarding aspects of a patients' drug therapy. Under the guidance of a pharmacist, adheres to policies set forth by the ProHealth  Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee.
  • Exhibits judicious use of resources. Prioritizes workload to meet patient and external customer needs. Adheres to department documentation and practice standards.
  • When dispensing controlled substances, maintains proper records in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Utilizes and optimizes technology to efficiently and effectively deliver patient-centered care. Performs accurate computer entry of orders and patient charges.
  • Performs timely and accurate replenishment of unit-based cabinets and automated dispensing equipment. 
  • Integrates medication safety into all phases of the medication use process. Under the guidance of a pharmacist,promotes utilization of the most appropriate, cost-effective, and safe drug therapy. Participates in the reporting of medication errors and adverse drug reactions, when appropriate.
  • Fills medication orders and prescriptions accurately following applicable laws and hospital/departmental policies. Assures that the correct drug is sent to the patient and delivered to the correct area in a timely manner.
  • Performs non-sterile extemporaneous preparation of liquids and solids and unit dose repackaging using the proper equipment and technique. 
  • Complies with safety policies and procedures, regulatory requirements (including OSHA, CMS, Joint
    Commission, etc) and participates in corporate-wide and department safety activities.  Assures that patient care is maintained through compliance with the department's quality improvement plan.
  • Practices ProHealth Care’s Patient Experience Standards.
    Maintains knowledge of and adherence to Infection Control Guidelines (including Handwashing, Bloodborne Pathogen and TB Exposure plans) and National Patient Safety Goals appropriate to specific job tasks.
  • Maintains department specific and organization wide competence through attendance at and timely participation in mandatory and other job-related educational opportunities.
  • Complies with work expectations and all organization policies, including adherence to attendance and starting/ending time.



  • Accepted to an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy program or enrolled in their first year of a doctor of pharmacy program at an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy
  • Must complete a competency checklist within three months of completing orientation and training sessions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other health care professionals and patients. Ability to prioritize responsibilities in order to optimize patient care and minimize adverse outcomes.
