What You Will Do
The Clinical Educator is responsible for developing and coordinating onboarding, orientation, clinical education, competency validation and ongoing professional development for nursing staff supporting Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum services at Waukesha Memorial Hospital and Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital.
In this role, you will:
Develop and oversee individualized onboarding and orientation plans for new clinical team members within Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum.
Provide education related to organizational expectations, maternal-child standards of care, clinical policies, procedures, protocols and key performance expectations.
Train, assess and validate clinical competencies related to labor and delivery nursing, fetal monitoring, postpartum care, newborn assessment, obstetric emergencies and patient safety.
Serve as a preceptor and clinical resource to new staff throughout the onboarding and competency-development process.
Act as a trusted educational resource for nurses, leaders, physicians, advanced practice providers and interdisciplinary team members.
Assess learning needs and develop educational programs, simulations, skills labs, tools and other learning opportunities to address clinical practice gaps and support professional development.
Support education related to new clinical practices, medications, technology, equipment and evidence-based standards within maternal and newborn care.
Coordinate and support education and simulation for high-risk and emergency obstetric situations, including maternal deterioration, hemorrhage, hypertensive emergencies, emergency delivery and neonatal stabilization.
Support ongoing competency in fetal monitoring, newborn care and other specialty skills required within Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum.
Systematically evaluate educational outcomes, clinical practices and staff competencies to ensure regulatory, accreditation, quality and safety requirements are met.
Lead and participate in quality improvement, patient safety and performance improvement initiatives related to maternal and newborn care.
Collaborate with nursing leadership, physicians, anesthesia, neonatal teams and other clinical partners to develop education and communication plans for new processes and clinical initiatives.
Support regulatory and accreditation readiness and help ensure clinical education reflects current professional standards and evidence-based practices.
Participate in maternal-child health committees, organizational initiatives and interdisciplinary projects as an educational and clinical subject-matter resource.
Promote a culture of continuous learning, teamwork, patient- and family-centered care, safety and clinical excellence across both hospital campuses.
What You Will Need:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required; master’s degree in Nursing preferred.
3+ years of experience in clinical education, training and development, nursing professional development or a related role preferred.
Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse license.
Previous clinical nursing experience in Labor and Delivery, Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum, maternal-child health or a closely related specialty required.
Strong clinical knowledge of fetal monitoring, labor management, postpartum care, newborn assessment and obstetric emergency response.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required or obtained within established department guidelines.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.
Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification strongly preferred.
Instructor certification in BLS, ACLS, NRP or fetal monitoring preferred.
Experience developing or facilitating clinical simulation, competency validation and staff education strongly preferred.
